The HYFLEXPOWER final workshop took place at the Representation of the Free State of Bavaria to the European Union in Brussels on 19 March 2024. It was an opportunity to present the project achievements and follow-up work as well as exchange on the barriers and drivers of of power-to-H2-to-power in the European Union.

After a welcome from the Director of the Bavarian Representation, Michael Hinterdobler, and a general introduction by the project coordinator, Ertan Yilmaz (Siemens Energy), Sami Garmadi (ENGIE), Benjamin Witzel (Siemens Energy), Harry Trump (Centrax) and Farid Ferroudj (Siemens Energy) presented, respectively, the advanced plant concept demonstrator, hydrogen combustion in SE gas turbines, hydrogen gas turbine package systems and hydrogen production in the electrolyser. Ian Amos (Siemens Energy) shared the results and lessons learned of the plant demonstration and Nikos Skordoulias (National Technical University of Athens) covered the techno-economic and environmental assessment.

In the afternoon, Jorgo Chatzimarkakis, CEO of Hydrogen Europe, shared his views on the role of hydrogen in power generation to achieve net-zero objectives and Marion Deridder Blondel, Chief Development & Strategy Officer at ENGIE described how hydrogen is contributing to decarbonization, with a particular focus on industry. We ended the day with a roundtable moderated by Ralf Wezel, Secretary General of EUTurbines – European Association of Gas and Steam Turbine Manufacturers, on the barriers and drivers of hydrogen in power generation that brought together Jens Geier, Member of the European Parliament and its Committee on Industry, Research and Energy (ITRE); Kasia Gryc, Policy Officer at the European Commission Directorate-General for Energy; Dr. Verena Klapdor, Senior Vice President of Gas Services Region Europe & Africa Siemens Energy; and Franck Le Baron, Group Hydrogen Deputy VP ENGIE.
